A Look at Curriculum

100 Book Challenge continues to be a huge success at Boothwyn School.  Our school goal for the year is 700. In order to reach this goal, it is important that each child reads at least two lines per night.  Do not forget to sign your child’s log sheet after they have read.  After your child has finished reading, ask him/her to retell the story to you.  This is a great way to share books, and you can be sure your child understands the material that they read.

In our Language Arts block we will be reading stories that help students discover the benefits of embracing their own ideas, interests, and abilities.  Throughout the year your child will learn many focus skills and strategies. The eight parts of speech, sentence structure, and the five paragraph essay.

In Social Studies, we will learn about the regions of the U.S.A.  In Science, we will be spending time on our “Land and Water”, “Electricity”, and “Weather” kits.   There will be many projects throughout the year that will be given within these subject areas.

Twice a day your child will switch for Guided Reading and Math.  The classrooms will be designed to meet your child’s instructional level providing them with skills and strategies that will enable them to grow as a learner.

Ways To Help Your Fourth Grader

  • Practice multiplication and division facts daily.  Fourth graders must know these for math instruction.

  • Study spelling words each night.  Give your child a practice quiz the night before a test.

  • Check your child’s assignment sheet and homework folder every day.

  • Encourage your child to read independently every night.

  • Call your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns.
